So, two days without football. Then two days of football. Then I'll move back to NZ time. Something like that. (More)26 Jun, 2010
I haven't seen all the games (due to clashes) and I won't. So this is not an exhaustive summary. The five games I haven't seen are Germany v Ghana, Slovakia v Italy, Cameroon v Netherlands, Korea DPR v Côte d'Ivorie, and Switzerland v Honduras. (More)24 Jun, 2010
Well, I do need something to do in these long mornings between games. Anyway, the rules are players must be a the final squads, and only one player from each country. There were some hard decisions in there. If somebody wants me to make them a pretty graphic like the one below, I'm free most mornings. (More)

And now (well, just after 8 this "morning") round 2 has been completed as well. North Korea and Cameroon are going home, while Brazil and Holland are through to the Round of 16. (More)21 Jun, 2010
So, we just drew with Italy. The reigning world champions. FIFA call it the biggest upset so far. BBC call it one of the biggest shocks in recent World Cup memory. (More)17 Jun, 2010
The first round of 16 matches has just been completed. And what a way to end it. Messiest goal so far, but Switzerland are going to party long and hard... (More)09 Jun, 2010
In case you don't know yet, I am intending to watch the entire World Cup. Almost. I might miss some bits because I have to play with kiddies. And there are eight games that clash (the final group ones). But I'll watch the rest of it. If you want a little preview, check out this goal by David Silva. (More)30 May, 2010
In rugby terms, this would be like Serbia (yes, really) beating the All Blacks. Yeah...

Here are the rules. Blatantly stolen from the Internet. (More)12 Feb, 2010
The Phoenix won tonight, so they are going to finish 4th. That means there is a home playoff on the 21st (that's next Sunday). Huge game.UPDATE: Due to Newcastle losing, the Phoenix are going to play Perth. (More)

16 Dec, 2008
This Friday. 1930. Ring of Fire. Against the Central Coast Mariners (just a suburb of Sydney). There's a 2-for-1 deal going on, so I can get 2 adult and 2 child tickets. And, assuming Ivan has no friends (at all - he needs to fix his iChat status), a student as well. Email if interested. It's kinda first-in, first served. And I think Susan will bring some friends on the kid tickets.11 Nov, 2008
If you have anything to do with football in Wellington, do the survey. Get some artificial pitches.10 Nov, 2008
It's almost time to warm another flat. This time, Dec 6. Keep the date free (though we're really close to Kilbirnie if you want to be one of those "enthusiastic" Christians...) (More)05 Nov, 2008
Great game of football last night. I was up with the White Noise crowd, and there were some classy chants (and an arsehole with some fireworks or something who got smashed by security). (More)03 Aug, 2008
This Wednesday, the Phoenix will be playing the Tards at home. In the pre-season cup final. Sure, it's only the pre-season cup, but after a 2-3 comeback victory over the Bling, it's going to be great. No idea on ticket prices or anything like that yet though.18 Jul, 2008
World Cup Final. 2010. South Africa. I'm Spain. Playing Argentina. 3-2 victory. (More)22 May, 2008
Yes that's right. I'm after a TV. For a monthish (June). Though I could make do with just from the 25th to the 30th... (More)03 Apr, 2008
In case you didn't know (and why would you?) I'm playing football this winter. And Ivan is as well. (More)10 Sep, 2007
I'm playing summer soccer again. It's 5-a-side (2 girls, 3 guys). Melissa wants more girls to play so she doesn't have to run so much. And I need a team name. Oh, we play on Tuesday evenings, not sure what time yet.16 Dec, 2006
Wanted: 1 person who wants The Reckoning by Pillar. It's their latest CD, and I have a copy to give away. Text me on (021) 366055 and I'll give it to ya. First in, first served. (More)09 Jun, 2006
And it's going to be a cool quote from the newspaper today. About the upcoming soccer world cup.Football fans are seeking divine intervention on behalf of the England World Cup team.
The Church of England says it has had more than 4000 visits to the prayers section of its website after it posted two World Cup prayers last month calling for God's blessing on the England football team.
A Church of England spokesman said this represented a 28 per cent increase in visits compared with the average of the past four months.
"The Church often provides specially written prayers to mark major national events, and the World Cup is no exception," he said.
"After all, you don't find many atheists during penalty shoot-outs." - PA
The last line is great, especially coming from an Englishman (-:. If you don't get it, you don't know enough about soccer!

We won!. 1-0. And I set up the goal, with a nice pass. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!14 Dec, 2004
We lost, yet again. I'm sick of it. One more game to actually win something, and I only get to play half.07 Dec, 2004
We lots 1-3, with me scoring from a penalty. It was a hopeless effort, and I'm too tired to write a proper match report. Next week, we're playing Dave (hopefully) and Weapons OMI.26 Nov, 2004
There weren't too many Daves, there were too many missed shots and blown opportunities. I'm the main culprit of this, probably because I have the most shots. 5 - 5 was the result. I netted 2, as did Sam, and Andy got a solo goal. Ivan hit the crossbar twice (from goalie clearances), and is still complaining about the ref. Once again, he had a run at goal (probably would have scored as well), and the ref stopped the game. Same ref as well. I didn't mind. I enjoyed the game (yay for rain and boots :-)) and a draw was fair, even though I reckon we were the better team on the day (mainly due to boots and high skill levels). (More)19 Nov, 2004
We were the better team in a hard faught battle, yet lost. Battle is the correct word as well. Some people play hard, yet can't take it when I play hard back. Odd... (More)12 Nov, 2004
We lost, but not as badly as I had thought. We actaully played rather well, as individuals. Our teamwork, like normal, was nowhere to be seen. 3-1 was the final score, with Andy scoring (I set him up). I reckon that we should be able to beat them with a real keeper (James or Ben or someone). We're definately getting better. I even managed to pull off two games in one night. It was an effective warmup, to say the least. (More)29 Oct, 2004
We played What a Shocka. And drew. Again. 5-5 this time. I was playing far better soccer than I did last week, and the result reflects that. Shreedhar went back to cricket (his practice day changed) and Ivan was pretty good in goal as a replacement. Our support was exceptional. (More)22 Oct, 2004
I hit the post once, missed loads more shots and set Andy up for a tap-in. Ivan set Andy for a tap-in as well. I played very poorly. Laura and Isla stood around and did nothing. Gotta get them running next time. It's easier to take photos of someone standing still might be my tactic. Or just get Bees to yell at them :-). (More)09 Oct, 2004
Twin Jeenyaziz
Twin Jeenyaziz is a team that is going to play in the Twilight Summer Soccer competition. We're a mixed college team, with players coming from both Scots College and QMC. I'm mainly do this to keep fit, have fun, and see if playing soccer against girls isn't that bad after all (It's a long story, involving shoulder barging and rep teams. I might tell it sometime if you ask). I don't know why I asked Andy if he was interested, he really sucks at soccer. Shreedhar can keep and Sam is useful sometimes. I'm not so sure about the girls though. (More)
ABOUT ME
I'm Michael Welsh (or yomcat), a 23 year old something from Wellington, New Zealand. I was married on the 23rd of February 2008 to Melissa. I enjoy discrete mathematics mainly, and have a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics. I have an iMac, called Gordon (named after my grandfather), and my "something small for Uni", known as Zepto. Oh, and Steve. Currently, I am doing my Masters, in the area of Matroids. I have a rather large (entire wall) blackboard in my room (3.24m2), and a little (A4) one that lives in my bag. I like long walks in the forest, playing computer games and stat whoring.
