Day 35 - Pinky Purple

10 June 2014, 08:23

So I missed a few days due to illness. It happens. Get over it already.

Back to editing (hopefully I’ll take some photos again tomorrow). This time, I took a photo from our visit to the US Botanical Gardens, which are pretty cool. I recommend them to anyone in Washington. It’s not a pink pohutukawa, as it wasn’t cool enough to have any of those (or anything from New Zealand).

I starting by cropping it to the rule of thirds. It would look better in the bottom right corner, but that’s not possible without destroying most of the image. I then pushing the mid contrast up (to make the subject stand out from the background more) and moved the red point around. I probably should have aimed for maroon, but purple is pretty.

This edit slightly changes the background in undesirable ways, as there is a little red in it, and these bits cause distractions.

Native GIMP still sucks arse, but it’s free, and I’m only using it to make the composite images. It’s usable.

In other news, I’ve put some more talks up on my maths page. These are the one from Perth, and the one I gave today that summarises the last four years (minus a few months, I started on this project just after the 2010 World Cup) of my life.
