Day 17 - Butterfly

19 May 2014, 03:34

Canon EOS 70D, Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens @ 200mm, 1/1250 second @ f/2.8, ISO 100.

So it’s a butterfly. I took a bunch of shots just down the road (there really are lots of photo opportunities within a very close distance) of some butterflies flitting around some bushes. The things move fast when they want to, and a 2245g (or greater) camera is not that quick at moving, especially when the subjects are about 1.5m away. This one, which is straight from the camera, has a nice spread, and the butterfly is mostly in focus (the antennae are a little soft). The background is boring (relative to some other backgrounds from the same shoot), however. You can also see what looks like crazy amounts of chromatic aberration in the bottom of the frame, which is surprising given that this lens is amazing (it really is, you’ll have to hire one yourself to see :P).

I really want a macro lens now. But the super-telephoto is probably still next on the list. We’ll see how I feel after a trip or two to Zealandia.
